LeeAnne Ireland from the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY) will present the findings of the Indigenous Literacy Assessment. You will learn about the findings from 152 Indigenous adults, their opinions on programming models and the recommendations they make to improve adult literacy in Alberta. The presentation also provides insights in systemic and programmatic changes that could improve literacy among Indigenous community members. After the presentation, you can ask questions and provide insights into your promising practices in this area.
Although the Indigenous Literacy Assessment was for Calgary Learns, has pertinent information that is relevant to those working with Indigenous adult learners in Edmonton. Her recommendations are not site-specific.
