ECALA would like to create a guidance document on class visits during the session based on ideas and input from Edmonton CALP-funded agencies. \nPart Two: Edmonton Literacy Coalition \nThe idea of collaborating on Adult Foundational Literacy priorities in Edmonton was introduced at the ECALA Fall Community Conversation. If you are interested in continuing to participate and determine priorities and activities for the Coalition\, please register. \nPlease note: this event is for ECALA-funded agencies only. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Elder Kerrie Moore\, Trauma and Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Date: Monday\, October 3\, 2022\nTime: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm\nWhere: Online\nFacilitator: Elder Kerrie Moore \nDescription: \nTrauma is passed down for seven generations.  Trauma is a repetitive experience that creates behaviours and beliefs which continue epigenetically creating behaviours that are continually expressed. Unless we experience a new positive repetitive behaviour our brain will continue with the old negative behaviours. This workshop will address Trauma and the historical negative patterns which create intergenerational Trauma. \nWe will also explore changing our brain and healing methodologies through an Indigenous and wholistic framework. In order to support resilience within an Indigenous worldview\, a wholistic way of knowing will be identified. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:ECALA Classroom: Authentic Materials With Adult Learners
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, April 21\, 2022\nTime: 6:00 – 7:30 pm\nWhere: Online\nFacilitator: Wendy Peverett & Leanne Rempel \nDescription: \nAuthentic learning is an approach that allows your learner to explore\, discuss and make meaningful connections between new materials they are learning in the classroom and being able to transfer this knowledge to the world outside the classroom. According to educational psychologist Howard Gardner\, “education has become nothing more than drill and response; there is no relevance for the materials the students are expected to learn.” (Gardner\, 1991). \nJoin us in our discussion about what do we mean by authentic learning and how to create and use authentic materials in your classroom. \nClick here to register.
