SUMMARY:Moccasin Making (Kistehitah Kimeskanām)
DESCRIPTION:Kistehitah kimeskanām (honour your journey/road) is a project arising from the identification of unmarked graves at former residential school sites across Turtle Island. It honours the children sent to the schools and the little ones arriving today. Participants gather with elders and knowledge keepers to learn the skills to make moccasins\, moss bags or star blankets to gift to new babies.

DESCRIPTION:Cooking and connection are what you will find in a Collective Kitchen program.  Small groups get together (in person or virtually) in different agencies across the city.  You will prepare and take home healthy meals for yourself and your family.  With hands on food preparation you will learn new skills such as \n\nbudgeting\nmeal preparation\nkitchen safety\nmath\nreading and writing\n\nYou will make new friends as you work through recipes in small groups.  At most sites\, a meal is made and eaten together.  At the end of the session\, you will take home 4 different meals.  You can freeze these meals and save them for when time and/or money is tight.

Here are some of the activities we will enjoy: \n\nlistening to stories about Canadian history\nVisits to nature trails and parks in the city of Edmonton\nPractice speaking English through one-to-one and group interviews with the instructor\nPractice reading English through activities such as word labelling\nPractice writing English by contributing to class newsletter/blog post\n\nThese activities will take place two times a week.
