SUMMARY:Indigenous Adult Literacy Curriculum and Resource Development Project Launch
DESCRIPTION:Date: Monday\, May 2\, 2022\nTime: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm\nWhere: In-Person\, Edmonton Inn\, 11834 Kingsway Avenue\, Room: Courtyard Ballroom \nDescription: \nJoin members of ECALA\, Elders\, Traditional Knowledge Keepers\, Indigenous Educators\, Indigenous adults and community members to share ideas and knowledge that will help guide and contribute to the Indigenous Literacy curriculum framework and resource development tool. \nEducators and tutors can use this introductory resource development to facilitate community-based learning opportunities. We also want to identify gaps that may prevent some agencies from providing literacy programming for Indigenous adults. \nThe Project will be launched and closed in Ceremony. Conversation and knowledge sharing will be held in Circle. Traditional values of respect\, honesty\, sharing and caring in all conversations will be incorporated during the event and through the Project.  In the spirit of reciprocity\, those who register and attend will receive a gift card for sharing their insight\, thoughts\, and time. \nWe ask that while in Ceremony\, those attending dress appropriately. It is the practice for women to wear a skirt below knee length\, or you are encouraged to bring a shawl or towel to wrap around your legs. If you do not have a skirt or shawl\, there will be some blankets made available. You may also want to bring a blanket to sit on during parts of the Ceremony. \nPlease note that COVID health guidelines and protocols will be followed to protect attendees. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Pronunciation Workshop Morning
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, May 5\, 2022\nTime: 9:30 am – 11:00 am\nWhere: Online\nFacilitator: Dorte Weber\, Rural Routes \nDescription: \nThis session is a continuation of April’s Pronunciation PD. If you weren’t able to join us at the April session\, there will still be plenty of takeaways for you. We will be taking a closer look at the difference between “intelligibility” and “comprehensibility\,” using a dictionary to help learners find the stressed syllables in words and how to teach your learner specific sounds. Dorte will be answering questions as well. \nPlease note that Google Chrome is the preferred web browser to use when accessing the Rural Routes session via Blackboard. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Unconscious and Implicit Bias - Evenings
DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday\, May 10\, 17\, 24\, 2022\nTime: 6:00 – 8:00 pm\nWhere: Online\nFacilitator: Launa Clark\, Imagine Institute \nDescription: \nUnconscious Bias – Discovering How Your Bias Shows Up at Work  \nIn these three evening sessions\, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about how unconscious bias works and how it shows up in the places we are the most comfortable. Using research and activities this session will uncover how difficult conversations help uncover bias and how tough conversations are not confrontational but validating. No preparation is necessary\, as you will all come with your biases\, as we all have them. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand unconscious bias and the ways it can show up in the workplace.\nExplore ways bias shows up in the way we interact with colleagues.\nIncrease communication skills related to bias with tools to support challenging conversations related to bias.\nExplore methods to help check bias in the way decisions are made.\n\nPlease note that this workshop will be repeated as a full-day training in June. \nRegistration is now closed. We hope to offer a repeat of this training in the fall. Please connect with pdcoordinator@ecala.org to add your name to our list.
