In the Books for Babies course, parents are encouraged to share books with their babies, starting in their first year. Parents are able to explore ways to enjoy books together with their child (0 – 12 months) including guidance and discovery of age-appropriate books for their baby.  Each group session will be an hour in length with a group size of no more than 10 families.

The B.O.O.K.S adult-focused program models book-sharing strategies where ideas and themes are discussed and may be extended by creating or preparing craft projects, games and/or drama activities to take home and share with their children. Parents may also engage in informal writing, often writing a story for their children during the program.  Parents borrow books (from one of the Book Sets) to share at home with their preschool children. The goals of the program are to improve the language and literacy skills of parents and their preschool children and to increase the influence of literacy in the home through pleasurable activities centred on children’s books.  After attending the program each week, children will be “indirectly benefiting” from this program weekly as parents will have borrowed books, prepared activities and taken home supplies to share with their children.
