Description: The key points of couple communication are explored and practiced as each couple prepares for their sharing, which takes place in a private setting. By experiencing the method first hand, persons are enabled to live more authenticity and to understand the conditions necessary for in-depth communication. Communication is a most important tool to create intimacy.

Description: October 1 – December 3, 2009 (ten Thursday evenings) from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at St. Andrew’s Centre (12720 – 111 Avenue in the Northwest Room).
Do you want to reconnect with your partner? Learn practical and effective communication techniques to make your relationship the formula for success. Explore your differences and learn to support each others’ dreams and goals. Find out if you are truly “listening” to “hear” what your partner has to say and vice versa. Lots of issues and areas of concern are covered in this ten week program including strengthening and/or developing new skills in communicating, different communication styles, problem solving, negotiating, intimacy and learning how to “turn toward each other instead of away”. Included is “The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work” by John M. Gottman for you to start reconnecting with your partner!

Creative Writing

Description: Students are encouraged to explore a variety of aural, written and other media texts to inspire the creation of their own unique texts. Self-expression and writing for enjoyment are the two main foci of this course. The activities throughout the Creative Writing course are designed to complement the Language Arts course and reinforce the reading, writing and grammar objectives achieved therein.
This course will be provided 4 times per week; students will be encouraged to submit their writing each day and will instructor feedback. This feedback will focus on self-esteem building, and the development of positive coping mechanisms. The students will be challenged to look at their ideas and writing from a different perspective.
